Substitution Rule Changes

The league rules regarding substitutions have been updated to match rules being implemented in the competition league (Razzia).

Our current league Laws of the Game indicate that a substitution can occur on a stoppage of play and only for the team that has possession of the ball. The league will now allow a substitution by both teams on a stoppage of play. Not just for the team that has possession.

Substitutions will still ONLY be allowed on the following stoppages:

  • throw in
  • goal kick
  • indirect free kick (referee has one arm raised in the air)

Substitutions will continue to NOT be allowed on the following stoppages:

  • corner kick
  • direct free kick (referee has no arm raised in the air)

The goalie must not be changed without the referees permission and can be anyone from the team. Failure to do so will result in an indirect free kick for the opposing team at the place where the ball is found at the time of the stoppage.

The following additional conditions for substitutions must be observed:

  • the referee must be informed before any substitution is made
  • the substitute may enter the field of play while the player being replaced is exiting the field of play and after receiving a signal from the referee
  • play will not continue until the player being replaced has left the field
